When Formspree is the better choice

You need a native plugin Formwire doesn't have, such as HubSpot, Salesforce or Stripe.
You define forms in code with the Formspree CLI and formspree.json, or build on @formspree/react.
You want a rules engine, custom email templates or a custom sending domain on the Business plan.

When Formwire is the better choice

You want more on the free plan: 250 submissions, the inbox with search, CSV and JSON export, hCaptcha and the read API.
Your traffic is uneven and you don't want a busy month to stall notifications. Formwire's limits are soft.
You build with Lovable, v0, Bolt, Cursor or Claude Code and want an MCP server and llms.txt the agent can read.

Migration

Moving a form from Formspree

Four steps, in order. The form keeps working at every step.

Create a form in Formwire and copy its access key. Verify the address that should receive mail.

Change the action to https://formwire.io/submit and add the hidden access_key input. Rename _replyto to email if you used it; Formwire sets Reply-To from the visitor's email field.

Move the redirect, subject and allowed domains from your Formspree settings into the form's settings or hidden fields.

Export your Formspree archive (Personal and up) to CSV, send a test submission, then archive the Formspree form.

Is Formwire a drop-in Formspree alternative?

Nearly. Change the action URL, add the hidden access_key field, and the same inputs work. Formspree's special fields (_replyto, _subject, _gotcha) have Formwire equivalents: the email field, a hidden subject field and the fax honeypot field.

How does the free plan compare?

Formspree's free plan has 50 submissions a month, a 30-day archive, Slack and Discord, and no export or redirect. Formwire's has 250 submissions a month, the inbox with search, CSV and JSON export, a redirect and the read API, with a 30-day history. Uploads, webhooks and the Slack, Discord, Sheets and Zapier apps come with Pro.

Does Formwire have Formspree's plugins?

Formwire Pro has webhooks and native apps for Slack, Discord, Telegram, Google Sheets, Zapier, Make, n8n, Notion and Airtable. Formspree's catalogue also covers CRMs, help desks and newsletter tools; from Formwire those are a webhook away through Zapier or Make.

Can I keep my old Formspree submissions?

Export them to CSV or JSON from the Formspree dashboard (Personal plan and up), then keep the file alongside your Formwire inbox. There is no import yet, so the CSV is your archive.
